Unfortunately, for a small not-for-profit organisation like Library of Things, delivery costs.
A vehicle has been purchased and needs maintaining, software needs developing, a depot/office exists, and most importantly, a rider needs paying a living wage (which our courier Gophr commits to).
Our delivery is higher than buying retail products online because:
- Our Things are heavy and bulky - you might pay £5-10 delivery if buying one
- Rental involves two deliveries, to you and back to us - you'd often pay the same or more to return a retail item of our weights/sizes
- Collecting from and returning to our self-serve lockers needs a bespoke courier, rather than a DHL/Evri who have economies of scale
We're hopeful of bringing pricing down once we've proven we've found the right partner to integrate our software with, and start to achieve economies of scale together.
