The short answer is, yes! All new borrowers need to complete an ID check before collecting their Thing.
There are two ways to complete your ID check - the best option is to do it at checkout when you make your reservation, then you can put your feet up and relax knowing everything's ready for your borrow.
Remember all of the kiosks are self-service, so there won't be anyone that can look at your ID when you go to collect your Thing.
Documents accepted
Driving licence
Passport
UK Citizen card
Don't have any of these? contact our Borrower Support team to see what we can do.
How to complete your ID check
Click the purple 'Launch ID verification' button at the checkout.
You will then be taken to start you ID check. It's really important that you choose the right ID type, and the correct issuing country. Then press add photo at the bottom.
Here's an example of the screen you'll see to add your photo. Be sure to take a nice clear photo, so that the document takes up the full area inside the grey box...no selfies please! There's a guide for where to place the face of the passport.
Then press the blue 'take photo' button at the bottom. Some documents will ask for a photo of the back too, so just repeat this process.
Hooray! ID check complete, you'll then be taken back to checkout.
Not working? Don't keep trying. Contact our Borrower Support team, and we'll let you know the problem to make it quicker for you to get the photo right on the second try.
How do I know if it's worked?
Click the person icon on the top right hand corner of the screen next to the shopping trolley. Then click 'your borrowing'.
You will then be able to see if your ID check has worked depending what colour it is. Remember that it takes a few minutes for the system to check your ID, so it's best to come back and check about 5 minutes after you've uploaded your photo.
